When I was Born

When I was born
My mother was torn
I gave her pain, I shared her gain
She took one look at my baby form
And loved me from her core
Her selfless love and care for me
Made me feel wanted
When I was born

When I was born
My father was proud
He swelled his chest and announced
He was my father and more
He took one look at me
He loved me as he held me
Promised to protect and nurture me
When I was born.

When I was born
My brother was forlorn
He never wanted to share his love
Yet he loved me when mother put me in his lap
He cared for me
And promised to play with me
To never leave me alone
When I was born

When I was born
I was ignorant and happy
To be in a world with mommy and daddy
Never knowing that destiny was playing with me
Those promises and love would go to waste
As it took away my daddy with haste.
But never mind the journey
It started off well enough for me
When I was born.
