All the while eyes black with anger
I feel the sting of loathing,
Of hate emanating in profusion.
Yet I stand my ground
While hoping to disappear.
It wasn’t my fault
All I did was hold the light aloft!
But the blame is on me
The eyes boring into mine with such intensity
That I cannot blink, cannot sink.

It rang in my ears like a hymn
I knew that the wrath was unfolding
That this was just the beginning
My mind was going on its train of thoughts
Wondering and thinking
I wouldn’t have been standing here so still
If such dangerous looks could kill …
